A small sitting area that had a glorious morning sun aspect, was however, limited for entertaining. A bigger space suitable for a table and chairs was required and so an adjacent bank was excavated and retained with vertically placed railway sleepers. The new space encompasses an elevated water feature, decorative hard landscaping underfoot and New York skyline topped sleepers that accommodate the curved edge of the courtyard. An important aspect of the design was to incorporate an existing concrete staircase that leads up to a small late afternoon sun deck. The bank that had been partially lawn is now given over entirely to planting.
